Economic Development Corporation

Lee County Employment and Economic Development Corporation (LEEDCO) is a private non-profit agency whose mission is to foster economic development in distressed areas of Lee County. The organization's goal is job creation. LEEDCO focuses in two areas:

• Small Business Development - LEEDCO is the only U.S. Small Business Association technical assistance provider in the State of Florida. Under this program, technical assistance is available to low-income individuals who want to start or expand their businesses. The organization provides entrepreneurial training for business plan development, general business consultation, loan packaging, and loan negotiations. These services are intended to assist small business owners in getting loans up to $25,000 from a financial institution.

  Clients are also provided with post-loan management assistance.

• Commerical Development - LEEDCO is the developer of the $3.5 million, 50,000 square foot Dunbar Shopping Center on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard in Fort Myers. This center will offer various retail services that are not available in the community. In addition, over 200 jobs will be created for Dunbar residents.

• Enterprise Zone Coordinator - LEEDCO is under contract with the City of Fort Myers and Lee County to serve as staff to the Enterprise Zone Development Agency (EZDA) Board of Commissioners. In this capacity, the agency coordinates the activities of the Zone. Under this state program, businesses that locate within the Dunbar Enterprise Zone are eligible for various tax incentives.
