Lade's Internet Service (LIS) is happy to announce that we are providing web page authoring as part of our service selection. While many people enjoy creating and maintaining their own web sites, the time to do so, especially the maintenance of the site, can be difficult to arrange. Below is a set of principles that should serve as a guide for you in deciding whether to employ us for this task.
Procedure
- The first step in generating a world wide web site is to gather up all the pertinent information that is necessary to create the page. The client should give this considerable thought and should collect the necessary material prior to meeting with IIS personnel. Text, art work, and a rough sketch of the page layout should be available for discussion at the first meeting. There will, no doubt, be some constraints on the physical layout of the page due to the limitations of the html language and these will be discussed and the general form of the page agreed upon.
- LIS will scan the artwork to generate web-compliant graphics files (usually *.gif) for insertion into the page. The text will be converted into html code and the page laid out in as much detail as possible. At this point LIS will place the page at a temporary WWW address (URL) so that the client can monitor progress as the page is constructed.
- The client reviews the page and transmits changes/modifications back to LIS for inclusion. This iterative process continues for several cycles.
- The page design time-frame is four weeks maximum. All changes/modifications must be completed within this period. LIS will usually turn-around simple modifications within 48 hours.
- When page design is complete the client contacts his Internet Presence Provider (IPP) is contacted and establishes a permanent web site address. LIS will be happy to provide client with a list of IPPs upon request.
- LIS places the page on the site and advertises on the major search engines using key words supplied by the client.
Page Maintenance
Once the page is up it is necessary to keep it current. Nothing is more of a turn off than out-of-date page. The client has the option of providing his own maintenance or LIS will maintain it for him at our low hourly rates.
FEES
- Basic Page
A typical web page of under 5,000 bytes of text and one unique graphic to be scanned costs $150. This page can include tables and forms suitable for automated communications between the reader and client. The above price includes converting the text into html, scanning the graphic and laying out the page. The cost drops to $135 if the client provides his own web-ready graphics file(s). The above fee also includes placing the page in a temporary directory on a web server for the client to monitor, loading the finished page onto a server of the client’s choice and finally advertising the page with the major search engines.
- Additional Services
If more than one user-supplied graphic is desired for the page an additional fee of $10/graphic scan is charged. If client wishes, LIS will provide graphic arts services at $40 per hour for the generation of logos, special graphics, etc.
- Site Maintenance
If the client wishes LIS to maintain the site, or if he wishes instruction on maintaining the page on his own, we will provide these services at our usual rate of $20/hour.
- Fee Schedule
An initial payment of one half the estimated page cost is required at the time the text and artwork is supplied to LIS. Once the page is approved, but before it is placed in its permanent site, the remainder of the fee is to be paid in full.
