DESCRIPTION: The content includes, but is not limited to,
interpersonal skills, medical terminology, legal and ethical responsibilities,
safe and efficient work practices, basic patient care, gerontology,
nutrition, pet facilitated therapy, health and safety including
CPR (heart saver) and employability skills
LENGTH: Five weeks, 150 clock hours.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Adults must be at least 16 years of age
and meet minimum standards on the admission tests. Due to new
Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, all
students doing direct patient care must either have immunization
against hepatitis B or sign a declination statement that he/she
chooses not to protect themselves from this disease.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES: Uniforms, watch with a second
hand, and other supplies.
DRESS REQUIREMENTS: White uniform, white shoes, and street hose.
EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK: Excellent. Program completers will have
their choice of positions in many nursing homes.
