COURT REPORTING

DESCRIPTION: The content prepares persons to use machine shorthand to record examination proceedings, testimony, judicial opinion, judge's charge to jury, judgment or sentence of court, or other proceeding and prepare transcripts. Instruction includes specialized terminology and procedures used in the legal, medical, and insurance fields; and skills for recording two, three, and four-way conversations.
This program meets the National Court Reporters Association's minimum standards for approved educational programs. Stenography Competency Levels must be: Literary--180 wpm, Jury Charge--200 wpm, Q & A Testimony--225 wpm with 95% accuracy upon completion of the program.
LENGTH: Six (6) semesters, 2700 clock hours.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: Adult students must be at least 16 years of age, be able to type 30 wpm on a 5-minute timed writing, have good English and language skills, and meet the minimum standards on the admission test.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES: Approximate cost: $50.00 per semester. Steno machines may be rented from the school.
DRESS REQUIREMENT: Business attire. No casual clothing.
EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK: Good.
