PHI BETA LAMBDA BUSINESS ORGANIZATION

Phi Beta Lambda-Florida Chapter is a nonprofit, local, district, State and nationally affiliated organization for all postsecondary students participating in business education programs. Our purpose is to provide as an integral part of the instructional program, additional opportunities for postsecondary students in business education to develop vocational and career supportive competencies and to promote civic and personal responsibility.

The High Tech Center North chapter, Rho Beta Epsilon, was organized and founded by Melody Garner, the Office Support Technology Program instructor. Miss Garner was affiliated with the Phi Beta Lambda while attending Alabama A&M University. In December 1994 Miss Garner started a chapter with 19 members. The members spent one week of initiation learning the history and the responsibility of the organization. Following the initiation period was the Chapter Installation Ceremony.

Phi Beta Lambda is involved in professional development, civic, service, social, and financial activities. Professional Development activates increase knowledge of various business and office occupations, providing valuable career orientation and goal-setting opportunities. Civic activates help the chapter get involved and contribute directly to the community's benefit. Members recognize the importance of being responsible citizens and form networks with business and community leaders. Service activities are serving those in need has a unique and immeasurable reward-an inner satisfaction of helping someone. Social activities are when chapters work hard and need time out for recreational, fun events. Fundraising is important in any FBLA-PBL chapter. Revenues above and beyond dues income are needed to support the local chapter's activities.

One of the chapters newest endeavor is opening a school bookstore. The bookstore will open June 12, 1995. Phi Beta Lambda has organized the bookstore and will manage the store daily.
Phi Beta Lambda Business Organization main function is to provide leadership experiences and for reinforcing specific vocational skills. The chapter here at High Tech Center North is successful going and experiencing new ideas.
