Rev. William Burnside Miller |
Our congregation formally dedicated the recently completed Rev. William Burnside Miller Sanctuary on Sunday morning, January 17, 1997.
This sanctuary is named in loving honor and grateful memory of William Burnside Miller, who served with great distinction as minister of this congregation from 1984 until his death in 1994.
The design concept for this project was developed for a contemporary non-traditional church which has its architectural roots in the early New England meeting houses. The building forms are modern day interpretations of the crisp geometric forms found in these early meeting houses. It is executed in simple, yet elegant, indigenous materials including white stucco, white metal windows and a white shingled roof.
The major design considerations include emphasis on the meeting house / worship space as a multi-use auditorium with a sloped floor, and the exterior courtyard as the symbolic and functional center of the church community.
