THE FEDERATION

WHAT IS IT?

The Federation is an affiliate of the UU Church of Ft. Myers. Its purposes are to promote sociability among church members and to help the church and the community.
The Federation draws its membership from the entire congregation. This group sponsors a variety of activities throughout the year. Of its many purposes, two are foremost: To encourage fellowship through social events; and to raise funds for the Church and for community social agencies. A Workshop, which focuses crafts and doing church maintenance tasks, is held every Tuesday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Participants enjoy a BYO brown bag lunch and are sometimes treated to a birthday or special event cake.

HOW DOES IT PROMOTE SOCIABILITY?

The Federation promotes sociability by working and meeting together, by keeping aware of each others' needs, and by keeping on close touch throughout the year.

HOW DOES IT HELP THE CHURCH AND COMMUNITY?

The Federation sponsors three annual events: A Christmas Bazaar in November when crafts made by Federation and Church members are offered for sale, and two Rummage Sales, one in January and a second in April. Once per year, a drawing is held for the latest quilt made during the Tuesday Workshops. In December, and on an on-going basis, the Federation donates items bought at sales, salvaged and/or re-furbished to community organizations. Members also offer their services to repair the Church, tend plants, and construct needed items. the Federaton has also bought major equipment and miscellaneous items for the kitchen and provided most the funding for the Church's Bell Tower.

HOW DO I JOIN?

Anyone may join by just attending the Tuesday gatherings. If you can't come at 10:00 am, come for the brown bag lunch at noon or give us support by donating crafts, rummage or volunteering to help set up, sell or clean up at one of the three annual sales.
