Services for November 1995
- November 5th - Homo Economicus
- This term comes from the theoretical understanding of human behavior derived
from economics. Homo Economicus' behavior in the marketplace is controlled by
perfect reason and exclusive self interest. Are people really like this? What
are the results of such a theory on human relationships? On society? On
religion?
- November 12th - Practice Living
- Many of us hear the advice that we should stop and smell the roses and live for
today. We laud the ordinary as the home of the holy. But how easy is it to
really live this way? Is it really possible? Rev. Sam will outline an
approach which will be the subject of a series of classes Sunday morning at
9:00am called "Build Your Own Spiritual Practice."
- November 19th - Celebrating Gratitude
- Please and thank you. We assume them until we have to teach our 3 year old to
use them as Rev. Sam and Philomena have been doing with Andy. Simple acts of
common kindness make a big difference to our quality of life. This exploration
of gratitude will be a fine preparation for our Thanksgiving feast here at the
Fellowship on Thursday.
- November 26th - Fundamental Errors of the Christian Right
- The Christian Coalition is just wrong about how to fix the ills of America.
They have their eye on some of the right problems but the answer
is not to become Christian or even religious. America was not designed to be a
theocracy. Unitarian Universalism has within it the solutions to today's
problems.
