One in six organisations -- representing nearly 40% of gross domestic product -- will fail to meet the year 2000 computer problem deadline, warns services company Cap Gemini in its latest survey.
"The situation seems to be getting worse as the deadline approaches," responded Robin Guenier, executive director of Taskforce 2000.
"The estimated cost of fixing systems has now risen to £31.8 billion, the figure that we forecast a year ago. Our forecasting to date has proved to be extremely accurate." . . .
Public sector organisations are spending an average of only £400 per employee on Year 2000 projects, compared with £1,900 in the private sector.
