If you think about it, Y2k could be just the tip of the technological iceberg meltdown that some have been predicting for years. When the hurricane came through Raleigh it only blew winds of 76 mph or so, but it put the State capital out of business for about three weeks. Why? Because except for a localized tornado or two, the wind had not blown that hard for 60 years or so. Every tree in town that grew up in those 60 years had its own private power line within reach, but the power company had never bothered to trim back the trees because the wind never blows that hard in Raleigh.
