Microsoft has been accused by US consultancy Giga Information Group of misleading customers on its millennium compliance. The software giant's statement that its products are year 2000-ready gives a false sense of security, said Giga's senior analyst Stephanie Moore.
Windows 3.x, Windows 95 and Exchange Server 4.0 need fixes to make them millennium compliant, Moore said. But the most serious issue was the way applications developed using Microsoft tools, such as 16-bit Visual Basic applications, can generate two-digit year dates.
