The Chief Information Officer at Edward Jones Co., in St. Louis, recently told a local business journal what society is facing. He recognizes that y2k is a systemic problem, not just a technical or business problem. Not many people understand this, he correctly observed.
"That's the No. 1 worry, because you have no control over it. If you link into someone else's system, you have no control over them," said Rich Malone, chief information officer at Edward Jones. "I think not enough people understand this is not just a computer problem. It's a problem for all society."
What is the solution? No one has offered one yet.
