The General Accounting Office has announced that Social Securtity, supposedly the government's model of Year 2000 action, is still in trouble.
SSA began working on its repair in 1991.

The U.S. Social Security Administration faces Year 2000 computer problems that could threaten its ability to provide assistance to millions of people, according to a report released.
"Unless timely corrective action is taken, the (SSA), like other federal agencies, could face critical computer system failures at the turn of the century ...," wrote Joel Willemssen, the General Accounting Office director of information resources management, in a report reviewing SSA's readiness for computer conversions to The Year 2000.
