History

The Art League of Fort Myers was formed March 2, l965; thus making this their 43rd year. In 1974 they were located on Crawford Street and stayed there for 8 years. In 1992 the Art League moved into the "Old Schultz Farm House" at the corner of Colonial and McGregor. That building was demolished in 1995 due to the construction of the Midpoint Bridge. The "Edwards Building" (present location of the Art League of Fort Myers) was moved from Colonial Boulevard to replace the "Old Schultz Farm House."

Purpose

The Art League was organized to promote the appreciation, enjoyment, and distribution of fine art. We offer classes in various media, outdoor shows, and painting at different locations, as well as field trips to museums and galleries. Members have the opportunity to exhibit paintings through monthly shows held in our gallery.

The Art League invites all of our members and their guests to attend meetings held the first Monday of each month. As a member of the Art League of Fort Myers, you are automatically a member of the Art Council of Southwest Florida which is composed of eleven area leagues and associations. You are welcome to attend their meetings held on the last Tuesday of each month. The Art Council is the umbrella organizations for the arts, therefore you have the opportunity to be in any show designated open to the Art Council.

Goals

Our goals are to be financially self-supporting, to secure a new art building, and offer art education to Fort Myers.
