Our MissionTo provide for the upward mobility of public housing residents by facilitating the creation and maintenance of affordable housing. Furthermore, to assist low income individuals as they improve their physical, social and economic environment. Company ProfileThe Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers (FMHA) looks back over the past years with pride in its accomplishments. With the dedicated efforts of the staff and the Board of Commissioners, many changes have taken place. Because of unwavering determination and the implementation of innovative programs, the quality of life for resident low and moderate income citizens has improved greatly. The mission of the FMHA throughout the last decade has been particularly challenging due to substantially diminished federal funding. The challenge of the Authority has been to seek creative mechanisms to minimize expenses and to develop innovative methods to address housing requirements independent of federal funding. These goals must be accomplished while simultaneously providing residents with an improved quality of life with expanded opportunities to become contributing members of society. StructureFMHA is governed by seven volunteer commissioners who are appointed by the Mayor and subject to confirmation by the city council. The Executive Director of FMHA is retained by the Housing Commissioners and is directly responsible to them. The Executive Director is directly responsible for all FMHA staff.
