AIR TRAVEL Saturday - Sunday Sherry went with Papa and I to the airport. We stopped at the Family restaurant on Fort Myers Beach and had breakfast. Dad and I were getting a little nervous because we were running late. They dropped me off in plenty of time for my first Delta flight segment to Atlanta. I heard the plane was full so I immediately went up and volunteered my seat. The ticket agent said he could have me in LAX by 8:00pm so I gave him my ticket. Unfortunately they had a bunch of no-shows so I got my seat back. I did get two free drink coupons; good for a mixed drink, wine or headset. The plane was late leaving and we were on hold over Atlanta for about 25 min. I was walking fast to make my LAX connection. I did... hope my backpack does also. Sherry took a picture of Dad and I in the parking lot. When we were driving out to the airport I realized I forgot my CD drive. I gave Sherry my two map CD's and Win95. I won't need them without a drive. No bid deal - not a critical item. (I do have my passport, traveler's checks and plane tickets). I cashed in one of my free drink coupons (the one I was going to use for Jane's glass of wine) for a headset. Delta wants 5 bucks to rent them. That would be a warm day at Cindy's house before I would pay that. We are on an L10-11, which has a good bit of room. The starboard engine was making a lot of noise when we took off but it sounds fine now (must have warmed up). I am at the bulkhead just behind first class. I am watching them eat all the fancy food. So far I have had two helpings of peanuts and pretzels. I am doing fine so far and am not tired at all. Tonight's 14 hour trans-pacific flight will be the true test. This is a 4 1/2-hour leg from Atlanta to LAX. Can't wait to see Jane at the terminal. We have just under a 4-hour layover. I will charge up the laptop battery if I can find a plug. Arrived at LAX without a hitch. I just came from where all Delta employees first go after they die - Atlanta. Getting ready to get on an Air New Zealand flight from Los Angeles to Sidney. The flight will be on a Boeing 747-400 and will take 14 hours! R |
