OCTAGON WILDLIFE SANTUARY
It's not a zoo... or a park.
Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Center is a nonprofit, charitable, tax-exempt corporation. As such, we are sustained solely through public donations, contributions and fund raising events. Octagon offers a haven to all wild and exotic animals in their time of need.
Becoming a permanent resident of Octagon is the ultimate fate of many exotic animals that seek shelter with us. After their needs have been met they are released back into their natural habitat. On the rare occasions when an animal is unsuitable for release, it is presented, by means of our educational program, to the schools or manned information booths at public events or with speakers available to service clubs and organizations.
American Bald Eagle, "Jo", was found shot and needing surgery on January 1, 1990. Although veterinarians in our immediate area share the interest in wild animals, they are limited to a degree. Fulfilling medical needs can be staggering and burdensome due to the lack of special equipment necessary for the treatment of exotic animals. The cost of surgery is apart from the cost of an adequate recuperation period, and now it is time to build the proper facility in order to care for this regal bird. Ask how you can help sponsor "Jo" and other birds of prey.
OCTAGON'S GROWTH...
Octagon Wildlife Sanctuary works closely with the Florida Fresh Water Fish and Game Commission, the U.S.D.A. and the U.S.D.I. Octagon is a worldwide professionally recognized, nonprofit organization.
Getting credit in the Disney movie "Aladdin" for the use of our tiger as the model for "Rajha" and other media exposure has helped us increase membership; however, it also means more needy animals are being brought to us for care as a result. Therefore, for Octagon to continue its very much needed work, funds are constantly needed. We have grown not only in strength and dedication, but in our determination to continue the work. A prime example is our fine staff of volunteers who run all facets of Octagon and are only provided with room and board as compensation.
Octagon has been featured on such programs as Incredible Sunday, Good Morning America, Long John Biffar Productions, Mid-Day Talk Show, Jack Wheeler Talk Show, and public and state broadcasting. Articles about Octagon have appeared in local, state and national periodicals including National Geographic.
OCTAGON'S ULTIMATE GOAL
World Magazine. In the past, celebrities like Morgan Fairchild and countless other interested people have visited the Sanctuary. Some have been compelled to write about their experiences.
Octagon's ultimate goal is to create a positive attitude toward all living things, to inform and raise the level of public awareness, and to give people the opportunity to learn how they make the difference between a poisoned planet without animals, or a well balanced planet.
Octagon feels that is important to provide our forthcoming generation with the information regarding past, present, and future environmental affairs in order to better prepare them for the future. We need to help them understand how important it is that they take a vital role in making the decisions that will protect all species... Including man!
