About Seminole Gulf RailwaySeminole Gulf Railway owns and operates over 100 miles of trackage in Florida from a connection with the national rail system at Arcadia to North Naples. A separate 34-mile line of Seminole Gulf Railway extends between Oneco (Bradenton), Sarasota, and Venice on original Seaboard Air Line and Atlantic Coast Line trackage. Seminole Gulf is the only freight railroad in Southwest Florida, hauling much of the region's building materials, newsprint, beer, LP gas, pulpwood, logs, stone and other commodities. After purchasing the two lines from CSX Transportation, Seminole Gulf Railway began freight operations in November 1987. Then in January 1991, the railroad opened the Dinner Train and Daytime Excursion Trains, from Railhead Park in North Naples, Florida. Passenger service operations were soon moved to the Colonial Station in Fort Myers, where, they have since resided. In the fall of 1991, the Dinner Train began its first Murder Mystery Production, "Murder on the Seminole Express" which became an instant success. Other special trips followed, the most popular of which was the Christmas Rail/Boat Trips to Punta Gorda, which have become an annual event. Over the past eight years, the Dinner Train, now known as The Dinner Train Theater has hosted over 120,000 patrons and has premiered twelve original murder mystery productions. Our fifteenth, Bird of Prey, opens on Friday October 13, 2000. Operating year-round, The Dinner Train Theater seats up to 200 passengers in 4 reconditioned 1930's - 1940's vintage railcars, known as the "Sanibel", the "Marco", the "Gasparilla" and the "Captiva". All food is prepared on board the train, in the "Marco", which contains the kitchen, bar and the on board generator, as well as a 24 passenger dining room. All Aboard!
