Family Record Extraction is a vital part of the effort to redeem the dead. Over the years the Church has collected millions of records that contain the names of individuals who have lived on the earth.  Although this immense volume of information is a great blessing, it poses challenges to members.  They need to be able to search quickly and simply for information about their ancestors.
In Family Record Extraction, workers convert family history information found in older church records, census documents, and other vital records to automated computer files.  Members then have access to this information through the Church's FamilySearch computer system, which they can use to identify their ancestors and determine whether temple ordinances have been completed for them. 
The work however is far from over.  If you have a computer and can spare even an hour or 2 a week to fill in some names of even a few of Heavenly fathers children,  it would greatly increase the speed of this work.
You will be provided with a packet of names, with the disk containing the Extractions program. Then, you simply enter the packet names on your computer and you are done.
