Holidays Made Brighter With Community and Resident Participation
Thanksgiving this year in public housing was made special with the help from local businesses. Publix, Sam Galloway Ford, Suncoast Beverage Sales and Anointed Word Deliverance Church provided 100 thanksgiving meals to public housing residents. Without the support of Buddy Moss, District Manger of Publix, who actually donated the meals and his staff at the Morse Shore Publix, Marc Baker Store Manager, Vickey Bee, Assistant Store Manager and Jeremy Guelfi Common Area Manager this program would not have been possible. We also want to recognize Sam Galloway and his staff Greg Stetson, Marketing Director at Sam Galloway Ford for providing the refrigerated transportation for the meals. In order to deliver the meals on time we needed to store them over night and Mike Mitchell, President and Frank Brown Vice President of Suncoast Beverage Sales provided us with cooler space, and Pastor Gregory Ford and Lee Ford of Anointed Word Deliverance assisted in putting us in contact with Publix and arranging this program. We are very thankful for these businesses and their continued support of public housing residents and the Fort Myers Housing Authority. Thank you very much.
What would Christmas be without Christmas presents and Santa Clause. Well, that is exactly what several members of the community thought when the Fort Myers Housing Authority "Kids Speak Out" requested donations of toys to be handed out at the four family developments the week of Christmas. The Lee County YMCA provided gifts for over 40 residents, Sun Harvest provided three cases of oranges and Kids Speak Out wrapped and delivered approximately 250 presents to resident children. We also have to give Mr. Howard West of Ruth Cooper Center a huge thank you for being this years Santa and working so hard. I am sure at the end of the day his legs were a little tired. Santa Claus along with Kids Speak Out elves when to each family development and took free pictures with Santa and gave each participant a gift. The gifts came from local residents who read about our need and provided childrens toys, stuffed animals, games and more. "We are very lucky to have a community that will raise to the occasion and help when there is a need. This was Kids Speak Outs first project and all members really came out and supported the cause. It was an extremely long day for everyone, but no one quit until the last child got his/her picture and a gift. It made us all feel very good," commented Anthony Thomas Kids Speak Out President. Once again, the Fort Myers Housing Authority and its residents wants to thank all of those businesses and individuals who worked with us as volunteers and/or donated gifts for their generosity and community spirit. Thank you.. |
