The Public Housing Developments experienced a 39% decrease in Part I Crimes for the First Quarter 1999 compared to the First Quarter of 1998. The Public Housing Developments experienced a 50% decrease in Burglaries for the First Quarter of 1999 compared to the First Quarter of 1998.
City of Fort Myers Police Chief Larry Hart and the Fort Myers Police Department are committed to the community, the Fort Myers Housing Authority and the Community Policing philosophy. This is evident with the continued improvements and decline in public housing crime. As partners with the community and the Fort Myers Housing Authority we are very pleased with the overall decrease in both Part I Crimes and Burglaries within all of the developments. We would credit the reduction of crimes within the developments to community involvement, cooperation and the buildings as well as the maintaining of these strong partnerships that have grown through the past several years Presently, five officers and a supervisor are assigned to the public housing developments. These five officers have been a tremendous asset to the community, Housing Authority and the police department. We are anticipating adding additional officers to the unit in the near future. Please meet with these officers if you have concerns, need assistance, or have an idea for improvement within the public housing developments. In reviewing the statistical information provided by our police department, we have been gladly able to report a 12% reduction in crime within the City of Fort Myers during 1998. This reduction reflects our commitment to the citizens, communities, and partnerships we have been able to establish. Our goal is to participate in the reduction of crime that occurs within the Public Housing Developments by 60% for the 1999-year. With the continued support and cooperation of all the communities in the Public Housing Developments we feel this goal is obtainable. As we focus on the future, we ask you for your continued support and to join us in participating in the enhancement of the "Quality of Life" that the community so richly deserves.
"Lifes most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?" Dr. Martin Luther King, JR.
