William "Rusty" Isler was raised in Louisiana, obtained a degree in Business Administration from LSU and has lived on Fort Myers Beach, Florida for the past 21 years. Beginning at the age of 13, Rusty came to the Beach in the summers to visit with his Uncle Tom & Aunt Martha Miller. During the summers of his school years, he worked on head boats, dive boats and offshore oil rigs. He has a U.S. Coast Masters License and was Owner/Operator of a commercial fishing vessel for six years. His dad "Red" was involved with the old Bonita Fish Company and together they built the motor vessel "Orion", a 50 foot commercial fishing boat. In 1979, Rusty married Donna Jones and gave up his sea legs. In 1980 they purchased a home on Dundee road where they reside today. They have two daughters, Sherry, 15 and Stacey, 9. Rusty has been active in the community, recently serving as Town Councilman for the first Council of the newly formed Town of Fort Myers Beach. For the past 15 years, Rusty has worked for The Island Water Association, Inc., the water utility for Sanibel and Captiva islands. He is the Information Services Supervisor and is responsible for the computer systems and the Purchasing Department. His areas of involvement include Utility Billing, Payroll, Accounting, and Budgeting. Rusty is a Certified Purchasing Manager by the National Association of Purchasing Managers. It was his idea to document his outback journey via the Internet. Rusty, like his sister Jane, loves to see new places and try new things. This may come from his travels as a kid while his Dad was in the service or from his hitchhiking days in college. In any case, his plans are to talk to the local people, ride the trains, walk the streets, and try everything local. |
